Jacqueline S.  Obando, DVM

Jacqueline S. Obando DVM was born and raised in Brazil, where she attended Veterinary School at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, having graduated in 1983. After working for a few years in a mixed animal practice, she traveled to Europe to further her studies in Homeopathy.

She moved to NYC in 1987 and has lived and practiced veterinary medicine on Mercer Island, east of Seattle, since 1996. Her life's passion has always been to heal our dog and cat friends.  She keeps current with state of the art orthodox veterinary techniques, as well as alternative treatment modalities of homeopathy, chiropractic and nutrition/nutraceuticals.

Dr. Obando is a member of the following associations:

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
Washington State VMA
American Holistic VMA
Washington State Holistic VMA (cofounder; secretary/treasurer)
Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy certification
American Veterinary Chiropractic Association certification
IAVH American representative (2001-2007)

Jacqueline S. Obando DVM founded MercyVet in May of 2000 with the goal of providing the gentlest healthcare possible for our canine and feline companions.  In addition to practicing classical homeopathy and chiropractic, Dr. Obando offers the highest quality veterinary medicine while coordinating diagnostics, surgeries and intensive care with area-specialists.
Cindy Geisler, DVM

Ever since I can remember my life has largely revolved around animals. I begged my parents for a pony at an early age and I started competing in horse shows. Ultimately I went on to win many state, regional and national awards. After obtaining my bachelor's degree in geology in 1983, my path veered off to follow another dream, and I became a professional tennis player. During this time I developed a keen interest in alternative medicine for my own health.

I returned to the academic path and ultimately graduated from the Oregon State University school of veterinary medicine in 1993. I then went on to obtain my certification in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute and animal chiropractic through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. I have also completed Richard Pitcairn's professional veterinary homeopathic course, and I have taken courses in Bowen therapy and Network chiropractic as well. My professional philosophy revolves around finding the balance of value between the allopathic western approach to veterinary medicine and the alternative modalities.

In my free time you are likely to find me training and showing dogs, running wilderness rivers somewhere in the western U.S. and sharing the natural world with my botanist husband Mark.

Brittany Santiago, Personnel Manager

I'm 4 years old and my mom has just stepped outside for a moment when I hear a thrashing sound from the living room. I venture towards it and find a terrified robin frantically beating against the windows trying to get out. Instinctively, I grab a kitchen pot, sneak up on the bird, and plop the pot down. My mom returns just then and we slide a lid underneath the robin and walk outside. I feel elated watching this beautiful bird soar off into the sky and at that point, I know I want to help animals during my life. I was raised with a menagerie of fur friends and loved every moment of it. If I wasn't playing with one of our house animals I was kissing garter snakes I'd find in the garden. Working in the veterinary field the last 3+ years I have been able to experience the same joy I felt when the robin flew off -- whenever I see a furry friend go home happy and healthy. I share my life with husband, Chris, our daughter, Savannah, and our 2 cats, Little E and Arora. Someday I plan on opening a ranch that is a safe haven for abused and neglected animals of all kinds. Cheers to good health!

Stephanie Kielty, Veterinary Technician

It's good to finally be here! I recently moved to Seattle from San Diego and I'm loving every minute. I have been a veterinary technician for 10+ years and moved here to pursue nursing school (RN). My boyfriend and I live in Capitol Hill and share an apartment with our two kitties; Sadie and Juice.

Catherine Burnett, Office Manager

My journey with dogs began when I was 4.  Releasing the handbrake on my father's Studebaker, my collie 'Lassie' at my side, we went 'driving' backwards, downhill, through the screened porch into my parents' well attended cocktail party.
My profound love and respect for animals continued to express itself through a Masters degree in Fine Arts, where the majority of my images celebrate the beauty and mystery of animal form.  Observing and studying animal behavior has been a life long passion.  I am devoted to helping people care for their canine and feline companions through Holistic medicine and non-forceful training methods, and to promote understanding and enhancement of the human-animal bond.  I garden organically living in the foothills of the Cascades, where I share my life with my husband, Travis, our son Zane, and our 2 dogs, 'Womburt' and 'Maevis'.  (and I always remember to set the handbrake)

Adrienne King, Veterinary Assistant

Adrienne joined the MercyVet staff in 2005. She can be found assisting the doctors or helping the front desk staff. Her fur-family includes Daisy, her Pomeranian, and Sasha, her Rottweiler. Adrienne's passions include camping, music and watching football (go Seahawks!). A little known fact: Daisy has a better wardrobe than most of us at MercyVet.

Katherine (George) Cannon, Receptionist

I remember very few times in my life when I did not have a dog (and since I've been grown, a cat also) friend. One of my mother's favorite stories is about my game of hitching a ride around the kitchen floor by grabbing hold of the tail of our golden retrienver "Rufus" and sliding across the floor on my diaper as he tried to get away. He did finally get tired of the game and grapped hold of the back of my diaper and dragged me to the other side of the room and dropped me there while he went back to his preferred corner to lie down.

I currently live with my youngest son, Cam, dog Daisy, and cat Joshua. I have one other son, a daughter and a 7 year old granddaughter. I keep myself busy by driving the bus for Metro in the early morning, working at MercyVet afterwards for 3 days a week, and teaching Aikido to children on the days I am not at the clinic. My favorite part of this job is the part where I get to pet all the dogs and cats.

 Sandy Gaston, Surgical Recovery

It's great being back at MercyVet. I worked with Dr.Obando in the very beginning, the first year. At that time I did a little of everything at the clinic, as we all did. While I was working there I was also doing my own healing work as a behaviorist-using various forms of energy work. After the clinic got going it was time for me to go back to taking care of myself and my clients.

This time I will be recovering surgical and dental patients using energy work, flower essences and Acutonics. The Acutonics healing system is a needle-less, non-invasive treatment that is similar to acupuncture. Precision calibrated tuning forks are applied to the specific acupuncture and acupressure points that access the body's meridians and chakra energy systems. This stimulates and balances the body's subtle energy field to promote healing and inner harmony. So when you have a companion animal that is having an anesthetic procedure at MercyVet, I will be there to help balance them before the procedure (I like them to hear my voice and see me and feel who I am before they have their work done). And when they are brought to me after their procedure I will be holding them and talking to them softly, helping them feel safe when they wake up. I will use all of my many years of training in energy modalities to help them recover to the fullest. I look forward to working with each animal as an individual-- a precious, one-of-a-kind jewel. What I do with one I may not do with another because each being needs something different in their recovery process. If you would like to learn more about my energy work and meet my animal family, please visit my website at www.animalnature.com. It is truly an honor for me to work with your companions.
